Mission & Goals

Go therefore and make disciples...

The Mission

The mission of Calvary Cornerstone is the same mission Jesus gave his followers: Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit.

The Goal

The goal of Calvary Cornerstone is to glorify God and be more like Jesus. We do this by creating a community where people are welcome, receive the gospel of Jesus, discover their God-given gifts, use them for his glory, and develop genuine relationships with other believers.

Core Values

Below is a list of core values at Calvary Cornerstone.  Jesus is the Cornerstone upon which everything will be built. The teaching of the word is the foundation, and our core values are the pillars.

Calvary Cornerstone

"Calvary" reminds us of the cross and all Jesus did to save us from our sins.
"Cornerstone" comes from Ephesians 2:20, which states that Christ is the chief cornerstone.  Jesus is the Cornerstone upon which everything in the church will be built.

We are Family

"You are no longer strangers and foreigners, but fellow citizens with the saints and members of the household of God, having been built on the foundation of the apostles and prophets, Jesus Christ Himself being the chief cornerstone, in whom the whole building, being fitted together, grows into a holy temple in the Lord, in whom you also are being built together for a dwelling place of God in the Spirit." (Eph 2:19-20) We are part of the family of God and believe God is fitting us together.

Discipleship

Christ called us to go out and make disciples. That is part of the mission of the church. We chose to use Acts 2:42 as our model for discipleship. ": "And they continued steadfastly in the apostles' doctrine and fellowship, in the breaking of bread, and in prayers." Our goal is to have all four of these aspects at each service.

Fellowship

The early church enjoyed being together. Acts 2:46, "And day by day, attending the temple together and breaking bread in their homes, they received their food with glad and generous hearts." We love food at Calvary Cornerstone and believe it is part of genuine fellowship. It is our goal to provide opportunities for fellowship so that we can grow as the family of God.

Ministry and Service

God has given all kinds of gifts and talents to his people. Some gifts are "for the equipping of the saints for the work of ministry, for the edifying of the body of Christ, till we all come to the unity of the faith and of the knowledge of the Son of God, to a perfect man, to the measure of the stature of the fullness of Christ;" (Eph. 4:12-13) There are several lists of spiritual gifts in the Scripture, and we desire to give people an opportunity to use their gifts for the glory of God and the edification of the body of Christ.

Worship

We are made to worship. Our goal is to glorify God. Jesus tells us the greatest commandment is "you shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, with all your soul, with all your mind, and with all your strength" (Mark 12:30). Jesus also says, "True worshipers will worship the Father in spirit and truth; for the Father is seeking such to worship Him. God is Spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth" (John 4:24). God is looking for true worshippers. Worshippers is part of who we are called to be.

Outreach and Evangelism

Jesus says to go and make disciples in the Great Commission (Matthew 28:19-20). The "go" part is outreach. This is the mission of the church. It is our desire to spreak the kingdom of God into our community and world.
